On November 23, MSCA fellow, Dr. Rafaella Georgiou, gave a talk at the Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich during the 10th International Conference on Synchrotron Radiation and Neutrons in Art and Achaeology. Her presentation was centered on x-ray Raman scattering (XRS) spectroscopy as a tool for probing the intricate chemical composition of organic mixed-media paints in bulk, offering insights into their speciation. Entitled “Carbon speciation of paints with mixed protein-oil binders: an inelastic x-ray scattering approach” the talk delved into the study, acquisition and analysis of protein-oil mixtures used as Renaissance paint binders. The event was an enriching opportunity to exchange and communicate the ARIAH outcomes to the synchrotron research community. The SR2A conference convenes scientists and specialists from around the world, who are committed to on heritage science research using large-scale facilities. It provides a priceless opportunity for the exchange of the latest advancements, expertise, experiences, and technological innovations in the realm of heritage sciences utilizing large-scale facilities.
